PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for an oxide superconductor having a layer desirable as a foundation of an intermediate layer such as IBAD-MgO used as a forming base of the oxide superconductor layer excellent in crystal orientation and in superconductive characteristics, and having a structure for further improving the crystal orientation degree of the intermediate layer such as IBAD-MgO.SOLUTION: A bed layer 22 of ZrO-YOmixed oxide and an intermediate layer 23 made of film deposited by an ion beam assist deposition method are provided on a metal base material 21, and the oxide superconductor layer is laminated onto them so as to be used for the substrate of the oxide superconductor.
