METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DIVERSITY SEARCHING AND DEMODULATOR ASSIGNMENT IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maximize reception of multipath signals by using demodulator finger assignment operation and optimal searching for a diversity receiver.SOLUTION: The demodulator finger assignment and optimal searching for diversity environment provides exploitation of independent fading and improved interference cancellation by ensuring the diversity of cell and reception chain. The demodulator finger assignment is carried out according to the signal strength and cell diversity after standard single antenna searching operation for each diversity reception chain is carried out. Then, signal paths are reassigned if necessary, and the reception chain diversity is achieved. Usefulness of a power control combiner is taken into consideration when the demodulator finger assignment is carried out based on the architecture of a diversity receiver.
