The present invention relates to a safety device for use with vertical drop coverings such as window blinds. In particular it relates to a safety device to prevent possible strangulation by the pull-cords associated with window blinds by automatically cutting the pull-cord if sufficient weight hangs from it. The device is in the form of an end cap (1) for use with window blinds, the end cap (1) containing a wheel (2) which is adapted to receive a pull cord (4) around its outer circumference. The wheel (2) is held in position by a pin (3) which is adapted to break when placed under a predetermined pressure. When the pin (3) breaks, the pull cord falls off the wheel (2) and onto a blade (85) which is positioned below the wheel (2). Alternatively, the device is in form of a toggle (100,200) that can be retrofitted to the pull cord of existing blinds. |
