PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element with high output that can be made without greatly increasing the manufacturing cost, and to provide a method of making the light-emitting element.SOLUTION: The light-emitting element 1 includes: a semiconductor substrate 10; a light emitting portion 20 including an active layer 222 sandwiched between a first cladding layer 220 and a second cladding layer 224; a reflective portion 210 provided between the semiconductor substrate 10 and the light emitting portion 20, and reflecting light emitted by the active layer 222; and a current spreading layer 240 including a concavo-convex portion 250 on a surface thereof. The reflective portion 210 includes a plurality of pair layers each including a first semiconductor layer and a second semiconductor layer. |
