PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new compound giving optical films enabling uniform polarization conversion in a wide wavelength, as a polymerizable compound used for obtaining the optical films such as polarizing and retardation plates which are the members of flat panel display devices (FPD).SOLUTION: There is provided the compound of formula A1-1 and the like. In the formula, benzothiophene may be substituted with benzofuran, benzothiazole, or benzoxazole; alternatively, S of benzothiazole may be substituted with -O-, -S-, -CO- or -N(R)-; Ris H or 1 to 6C alkyl; and the side chain portion may be substituted with one or more substituents in a specific range. |
