PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the speed of character recognition processing in an image processor which performs character recognition processing to image data.SOLUTION: An image processor 1 is provided with: a top and bottom determination part 27, a character recognition part 13, and a dictionary selection part 28. The top and bottom determination part 27 performs the matching of each character pattern when the direction of a character pattern shown by image data is set to each of vertical and horizontal four directions with the character pattern of dictionary data by referring to the dictionary data of Japanese and the dictionary data of English, and determines the top and bottom direction of the image data based on the result of matching. A character recognition part 13 performs character recognition processing to the image data by using the dictionary data. A dictionary selection part 28 selects the dictionary data of language corresponding to the result of matching as the dictionary data to be used by the character recognition part 13.
