An audience response system (ARS) includes an audience response server, an instructor provided with a terminal, and audience members, either individually or in groups, provided with response devices. The instructor may ask open-ended questions, and students may respond with free-text answers. The audience response server then classifies similar answers based on literal or semantic similarity, so that the instructor can see at a glance which answers may be grouped together. The audience response server may also break answers down into discrete concepts, so that the instructor can see if certain groups correctly identified some concepts, even if the answer is not correct in its entirety. |
