PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visual inspection apparatus capable of controlling manufacturing cost, performing a visual inspection in a short period of time and with high precision, and reducing a load on a driving motor.SOLUTION: The visual inspection apparatus 1 includes: a holding device 40 for holding a spherical workpiece W by a tapered taper surface formed in each outer periphery of the leading end of two driving rollers; a rotary driving device for driven-rotating the workpiece W by rotating each driving roller in the same direction so that the rotating speed is changed periodically and in reverse phase; a light projecting section 71 for applying a slit light having a long and thin beam cross section in the direction intersecting the scanning direction of a laser light by the rotation of the workpiece W; a light receiving section 74 in which a plurality of light receiving elements are arranged along the longitudinal direction of the beam cross section of the reflected laser light, the light receiving elements generating an electric signal corresponding to the amount of received light by receiving the laser light reflected from the surface of the workpiece W; and a determination section 76 for determining the quality of appearance of the workpiece W based on each of the electric signals generated by each light receiving element. |
