It is one object to provide the reluctance motor apparatus with a superior torque/weight ratio. The five-phase Hendershot-type switched reluctance motor has a plurality of U-shaped rotor poles magnetizing in turn. The stator poles can have a DC windings each. The rotor pole gaps can accommodate the permanent magnets and/or the short-cut winding. The five-phase inverter can consist of six pairs of a transistor and a freewheeling diode. The inverter can be connected to the power source via the capacitor. The bi-directional boost DC-to-DC converter can apply the boost voltage to the five-phase inverter.
