Balls. - Relates to an inflatable rubber ball produced from plane rubber sheets by stamping welded seams and adapted to collapse in the absence of internal excess pressure, and consists in that each half of the ball is formed of more than two spherical lenticular segments. In the manufacture of a six segment ball, two pockets a, b, Fig. 6, are stamped out of two pieces of rubber 10, 11, Fig. 4, and the seams 6<a>, 6<b> formed, by a blunt die 12. The pockets are arranged in relation to a wire former 16, Fig. 8, and two sheets of rubber c, d in the manner shown in Fig. 11, and are subjected to pressure between two plates 14, 15, the resulting product, Fig. 12, when inflated, giving the ball shown in Fig. 1. In the manufacture of a ten segment ball, six sheets of rubber 19 - - 24 are arranged as shown in Fig. 14 in relation to a wire former 17, Fig. 13 and are subjected to pressure between plates to produce the products A, B shown in Fig. 15. These products are joined by rectilinear dies 26, 27 and the assemblage, when inflated. is of spherical shape.</p> |
