<p>A process for forming a geopolymeric cement is disclosed which comprises forming the cement from a precursor having a Si:A1 atomic ratio of less than or equal to 1.3:1, thus forming an alkaline multiphase alumino-silicate material. The process may include the use of calcium silicate as a further precursor. The precursor may comprise basaltic rock in which kaolinization is at an advanced stage, such as interbasaltic material found in Northern Ireland. Also disclosed is the formation of structural units for constructing a building, the structural units being manufactured using the geopolymeric cement may have compressive strengths of greater than 3 N/mm2and preferably having compressive strengths in the range of 12—25 N/mm2.</p> |
