326,035. Schmidt, E. March 22, 1929. Machines for making and covering boxes. - Round boxes, Fig. 12, comprising a cylindrical wall b and a projecting base a united and covered by a paper strip 2 are made by mounting the wall b on a circular spring ring 21, Figs. 7 and 8, disposed between the conical edges 23, 24 of a pair of rotatable elements 19, 20 pressed apart by springs 22 and moved together to expand the spring 21 and secure the wall b. The element 19 is fixed and the element 20 is moved laterally relatively by a rotating ring member 25 which also carries the bottom a, supported on a non- rotating abutment 26 of the member 25, into contact with the edge of the body a. The covering strip 2, fed from a roll and moistened and glued, is conducted to a channel 12 through which it is led on to body b on the elements 19, 20. A lever 14, Figs. 1 and 6, carrying a leaf spring 31 is then lowered to force the strip 2 into contact with the rotating body which winds the strip around itself and further movement of the lever 14 causes a knife 29 carried thereby to sever the strip against a fixed knife 30. Channels 32, 33, Fig. 19, cause the projecting edges of the paper strip 2 to become folded over and attached to the outside of the bottom a and to the inside of the body b. |
