Animals, stocks and like appliances for holding.. -An appliance for use in the slaughter or treatment of animals and comprising integral platforms b, c, at right angles to one another, adapted to receive, and then, by rotation, to throw the animal on its side, is characterised by the provision of mechanism for positively rotating the member b, c and by the fact that the member c after rotation is downwardly inclined. The member c is secured by brackets d to a shaft e mounted in bearings f, and is rotated by a crankhandle p through bevel gearing n, m, a worm h and a toothed sector g. The animal is secured to the, member c by a flexible band having straps at top and bottom fastened by quick-release fasteners s and passing through slots c' respectively, the fasteners s serving to release the slaughtered animal after rotation of the member c, h. In order to permit greater downward inclination of the platform c, the upper part thereof may be formed as a flap hinging outwardly. A partition u may separate the animal from the turning mechanism. Additional straps may be provided around the fore and hind quarters of the animal, or the band q may be replaced by a number of straps laterally adjustable on a rod or bar on the part c. Cushioning means may be provided: or the part c may comprise a metal framework faced with wooden battens or cushioning strips.
