The application relates to methods for automatically checking whether a website, accessed by a user, is a merchant website that participates in a purchase reward scheme. Depending on the results of the check, the user can be redirected to merchant website that participates in the scheme. An application running at a user terminal is associated with a set of rules. A first identifier (e.g. URL) of a first resource 160 in the data network is parsed, where the first resource is part of a first collection of resources and is requested for download by the user terminal. A rule, in the set of rules, that is associated with the first identifier is identified and, based on the identified rule, it is determined that the resource 160 is categorised in a collection (i.e. non participating) of resources for which the application can request information relating to other collections or categories of resources 120 (i.e. participating). The application can extract a search term from the identifier based on the set of rules, send the search term to a server and then receive information relating to participating resources from the server. Based on an identified rule associated with the resource identifier, the application can determine that the resource 120 is categorised in a collection (i.e. participating) of resources for which the application can request to reload the first resource, and then receive, from a server, a file to track interactions between the terminal and resources. Based on an identified rule associated with the resource identifier, the application can generate a request 102 for a user s input.
