RANGING BY MOBILE STATION IN LEGACY SUPPORT MODE

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for performing the ranging of a mobile station in a legacy support mode are provided to perform ranging by differently analyzing an S-SFH according to a mixture mode. CONSTITUTION: A processor(220) judges whether or not the frame configuration used in a mobile communication system supports a legacy system. If the frame configuration supports the legacy system, the processor acquires from an S-SFH(Secondary-SuperFrame Header) the ranging channel information for performing initial ranging, handover ranging and periodic ranging. The processor uses the ranging channel information to perform at least one of the initial ranging, the handover ranging and the periodic ranging.
