PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark plug capable of restraining peeling-off of a noble metal chip on the surface of a discharge section while restraining spark consumption, oxidative consumption, and abnormal consumption of the discharge section in the spark plug which forms the discharge section with the noble metal chip.SOLUTION: The spark plug has a center electrode (3) and a ground electrode (4) arranged so as to make a side face of the ground electrode face to the pointed head of the center electrode (3). A center electrode side discharge section (31) and a ground electrode side discharge section (32) respectively having a center electrode side discharge surface (31t) and a ground electrode side discharge surface (32t) by welding the center electrode side noble metal chip (31') and the ground electrode side noble metal chip (32') are formed on at least one of the center electrode (3) and the ground electrode (4) at a location opposite to a spark discharge gap g, and the center electrode side noble metal chip (31') and the ground electrode side noble metal chip (32') include Ir, Rh, and Ni as primary components, and furthermore, include at least either Pt or Pd. |
