PURPOSE: A rail-less welding apparatus for the outer surface of a steel pipe is provided to reduce working hour and construction costs by automatically moving on the outer surface of the steel pipe and performing welding work along the bending of a welded portion. CONSTITUTION: A rail-less welding apparatus for the outer surface of a steel pipe comprises a body frame, a magnetic unit(20), a torch(30), an input unit, a controller(60). The body frame comprises a running wheel. The magnetic unit generates the adhesive force on the steel pipe. The magnetic unit is installed on the front and rear sides of the body frame. The input unit detects signals toward the junction of the steel pipe by a laser sensor(52). The controller controls the movement of the main frame at fixed speed with corresponding to the signals of the input unit for welding processes.
