The present invention relates to a reactor (10) and a method for continuous polymerization, wherein the reactor (10) comprises a substantially tube-shaped reactor housing (16). The reactor housing (16) comprises a drive (38) running along the geometric centerline (12) in the flow direction (22), the drive being implemented as a center shaft. A rotationally disposed scraper or wiper (36) is provided within the reactor housing (16), wherein the scraper or wiper (36) comprises at least one scraper or wiper blade (42) for running along an inner side (44) of the reactor housing (16). Radial mixing of a flow within the reactor housing (16) is achieved by the rotational motion of the scraper or wiper (36), dominating the effects of gravity and selectively allowing a piston, loop, or return flow within the reactor (10) by shaping the scraper or wiper. Said selection allows the reaction conditions in the axial direction of the reactor housing (16) to be predicted and individually suitable reaction conditions to be adjusted and controlled along the reactor housing, so that in particular a desired molecular weight distribution can be set.
