In order to maintain consistency in the sense of perspective between each object in an image in the superimposed display of captions (a caption unit) in the ARIB system, a multiplex data stream provided with a video data stream and a caption data stream is transmitted from a broadcasting station to a set-top box. The video data stream from a video encoder (113) includes stereoscopic image data. The caption data stream from a caption encoder (133) includes the data for the captions (the caption unit) in the ARIB system as superimposed information, and parallax information (a parallax information set). Data for a predetermined number of captions that are displayed on the same screen is disposed sequentially in the caption data stream via a separator. Additionally, the parallax information (the parallax information set) inserted into the caption data stream includes a predetermined number of parallax information that each have identification information, which indicates the positioning order of the data for the predetermined number of captions, added thereto.
