PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material capable of suppressing generation of a gas, a method of manufacturing the same, and a nonaqueous electrolyte battery.SOLUTION: A positive electrode 12 has the positive electrode active material. The positive electrode active material has a lithium composite oxide and a coating layer provided on at least a part of the surface of the lithium composite oxide, the lithium composite oxide is one having nickel as a main component, and the coating layer contains heteropolyacid and/or a heteropolyacid compound.
