PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of properly performing contrast AF even in imaging of a greatly varying object.SOLUTION: When the contrast AF is performed while using a period for reading pixels in two rows as a charge storage period, a period during which the pixels store charge is prolonged as compared with when a period for reading pixels for one row is used as a charge storage period, and an object image is obtained from pixels in the m-1-th row and n-th column, m-1-th row and n+1-th column, m-th row and n-th column, and m-th row and n+1-th column. When the object moves further, the object image is obtained from pixels in the m-th row and n+1-th column, m-th row and n+2-th column, m+1-th row and n+1-th column, and m+1-th row and n+2-th column. Thus, in comparison with scanning carried out immediately before, overlapping of the object image occurs in the n+1-th column. Therefore, correlation of the object image between the read rows is increased. Consequently, deterioration in contrast reliability of the object image in the vertical direction can be suppressed. |
