PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crankcase of an internal combustion engine, enabling size reduction of an oil pan.SOLUTION: A crankcase 3 is composed of an upper crankcase half 111 and a lower crankcase half 121. A wall portion 140 for defining a space portion X where a lubricating oil flows is formed below a journal bolt tightening surface 125 of the lower crankcase half 121. A tool insertion hole 145 for tightening a journal bolt 131 is formed through the wall portion 140.
