PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-wavelength light generating method and device for generating multi-wavelength light of optional frequency interval with a single multi-wavelength light generating device.SOLUTION: The multi-wavelength light generating device includes a multi-wavelength light generating means for generating the multi-wavelength light of frequency interval f(for example, CW light source 2, modulator 3, and signal generating device 4), and a Fabry Perot filter 5 having two reflecting mirrors facing each other in parallel. The multi-wavelength light of frequency interval fgenerated by the multi-wavelength light generating means is made to enter the Fabry Perot filter 5, the distance L between two reflecting mirrors is controlled, it is set so that the free spectral range (FSR) of the Fabry Perot filter 5 is integer N times the frequency interval f, and it is set so that the frequency of any one light of the multi-wavelength light of the frequency interval fmatches with any one of the transmission frequencies of the Fabry Perot filter 5.
