The device for connecting a workpiece (8) with a joining part using laser radiation, where the workpiece and the joining part are connected along a given joining line by a welding seam, comprises a workpiece carrier (5) movable along a guide web (3) for gripping, transporting, positioning and driving the workpiece, means for producing the laser radiation on a workpiece surface, a joining position, where the workpiece and the joining part are joined with joining means, a welding position with a hold-down device (10) mounting on the workpiece surface, and a frame with two spaced walls (2). The workpiece carrier is guidable between the joining position and the welding position, where two different joining means and the hold-down device are equipped for processing the workpiece and the joining part with different dimensions. The hold-down devices are placed in a magazine and are disposed on the workpiece surface through moving the magazine and the workpiece carrier relative to each other. The magazine is guidable along the guide web, and the hold-down device adapted on the respective workpiece dimension is guidable in the welding position through guiding the magazine. The magazine is connected by coupling with the workpiece carrier and is guidable in the desired position. The workpiece carrier is guidable on a sledge along guide rails arranged on the walls in a horizontal direction or along the guide web in vertical direction or is guidable through guiding in horizontal direction in a position below the hold-down device. The workpiece carrier is mountable on the workpiece surface in vertical direction of the hold-down device. The workpiece carrier is guidable through guiding in horizontal direction in the joining position and is joined with the joining part through guiding in vertical direction of the workpiece. The workpiece carrier is guidable for rotoric driving of the workpiece as motor spindle.
