The method involves using a standardizing element that exhibits certain roughness as a standardizing normal (10), where thickness (d1, d2) of the standardizing element is determined via an optical thickness sensor. The standardizing element is moved in a definite manner, during recording of the data that is utilized for standardization such that averaging of optical values at multiple positions of the standardizing element takes place in an automatic manner. The standardizing element is moved via a pneumatic drive and consists of ceramics.
