<p>A landing craft 20 includes a forward v-shaped keel section 26, and a tapered ramp 24 that forms the bow of the vessel. The ramp 24 incorporates bias means (11, Fig 5) such that when lowered to ground, further downward force can be applied so as to provide a grounding edge 27 that supports a proportion of the total displacement of the craft, consequently counteracting instability arising from the grounding of the v-shaped keel section 26. The biasing means may comprise at least one hydraulic ram or actuator and locking means for locking the ramp in a lowered position may also be provided. Also disclosed is a method for operating the landing craft ramp.</p> |
