[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] In making vehicle doors in which the inner panel 10 is preliminarily secured to the outer panel 11 by a flange 13 bent over at 45‹, the complete clinching over of this flange is done between dies 16, 17 after the assembly has been aligned and clamped in sequence as follows:-The door is located with its spindle hole over a pin 21, Fig. 2, and its lower edge engaging a shoulder 46 in the lower die. Fluid pressure is supplied to cylinder 43, Fig. 1, to swing the arm 38 between the panels to engage the lock opening. Fluid pressure is supplied to cylinder 20 to swing clamping bar 15 to grip the lower edge of the door against the shoulder 46. Four radial fingers 30 are then pushed outwards to lie over the covers of the window opening by being coupled to a disc 32 oscillated by fluid pressure cylinder 33. These fingers are then drawn down to nip the corners of the window opening and so hold it firmly on the die 16 by a fluid pressure piston 25 which draws down the mounting plate 27 of the fingers 30 against the pressure of springs 35. |
