The method involves determining a central diameter (Dm) of a monolith (2) i.e. ceramic substrate. Thickness of a matte (3) is determined, and a housing plate (4) is provided at a housing (5). The central diameter of the monolith is determined such that the monolith is positioned in a measuring chamber, and an intermediate chamber is filled with fluid between the measuring chamber and the monolith. Amount of fluid corresponds to volume difference between the monolith and the measuring chamber is measured. The central diameter of the monolith is measured from the difference. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining central diameter of a monolith, comprising a base plate (2) a method for generating a cascaded chamfer of a longitudinal side of a housing plate (3) a device for generating a cascaded chamfer of a longitudinal side of a housing plate, comprising a pair of electrodes (4) a catalyst comprising a monolith.
