The mechanism (1) has a hinged handle (2) hinged to drawer front (7) by a joint and connected with a latching part at periphery of the drawer front by an actuating device. The actuating device is formed from a strand (3), which is connected at one end with the latching part in the form of a piston and at another end with a bendable strap connected with the handle over a return guide behind the handle, so that tension at the handle causes swiveling of the handle and tension at the strand and retraction in the piston are caused over the strap. The piston, strand and strap are made of plastic.
