The device (100) has a signal input (E1) for receiving a variable that is significant for an axle load of axles of a vehicle-axle assembly, where the variable is a pressure value or spring pitch. A control unit is connected to the signal input and a control output (A). The control unit compares the variable with a given acceptance range of the axle load. The control output outputs a control signal, and is not initiated during braking process when the variable lies beyond the given acceptance range. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a brake system comprising an actuator (2) a method for controlling a vehicle-axle assembly.
