<p>#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves detecting selection of a character of a character string from a character set by evaluating a direction vector of a gesture which is input on an input surface. The direction vector is evaluated with respect to a reference point (10) on the input surface such that a location vector with the reference point is assigned as beginning or test point to the direction vector. An input pattern (T) with the character is displayed on the input surface.
