PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a damper of a dust collector in a ladle furnace are provided to minimize the starting current of a fan motor by reducing the load applied to the fan motor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling a damper of a dust collector in a ladle furnace comprises a sensing unit(420), a determining unit(430), and a control unit(440). The sensing unit is installed in a refining position and senses a ladle. The determining unit determines the entry of the ladle into the refining position based on the ladle sensing result. The control unit controls so that a fan motor(160) is stopped after a damper(140) of a dust collector is shut if the determining unit determines the deviation of the ladle from the refining position, while controlling so that the damper is opened after the fan motor is driven if the determining unit determines the entry of the ladle into the refining position.
