The charging device (10) has a power supply section and a contact arrangement (34) with multiple contact elements. The contact arrangement is adapted to contact a positive pole (28P,30P,32P) and a negative pole (28M,30M,32M) of each cell of the battery (22). A charging circuit is provided, which interconnects the power supply section and the contact arrangement with each other. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a rechargeable battery with a battery positive pole; and (2) a method for charging a rechargeable battery.
