The method involves setting target speed of a motor vehicle at a driver side and/or a target distance to a preceding vehicle. Necessity for downhill driving control of the motor vehicle is automatically captured. The motor vehicle is automatically controlled/regulated by automatic brake actuation based on the target speed and/or maximum speed and/or the target distance, when necessity exists for the downhill driving control of the motor vehicle. Automatic re-directions to specified target speed and/or specified target distance is controlled/regulated. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a controlling/regulating device.
