The element has a body coated with anti-inflammatory composition and designed as a thread e.g. safil(RTM: Multi- or monofilament suture thread). The thread comprises fibers that are interlaced together. The composition exhibits an active agent that is selected from a group consisting of corticosteroid, cytostatica, immunosuppressive agent and non steroidal anti- inflammatory agent. The cytostatica comprises methotrexate, colchicine and/or vincristine. The corticosteroid comprises prednisolone, and the non steroidal anti-inflammatory agent comprises cyclooxygenase-inhibitor. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing a surgical wound sealing element (2) a method for sealing a wound.
