Class 72 A device for collecting exhaust gases from a converter comprises an adapter bridging the space between the converter and an exhaust duct, the adapter consisting of at least two parts longitudinally separable which are applied against the converter and the exhaust hood. As shown, a truncated cone is separable into two parts 5a and 5b each fixed to a frame 8 pivoted at 6 and carrying counterweights 9. Each part may have cooling coils 19 supplied with coolant through pipes running along the top of the frame 8, or the inner peripheries of the parts may carry protective linings. Ropes 11, 12 lead from the counterweight arms of the frame to a drum 17, operation of which in the clockwise direction moves the parts 5a and 5b downwardly and outwardly away from the converter mouth. Rings may be fitted near the top and bottom edges of the parts 5a and 5b, on the converter body, and on the exhaust hood 3 to form seals, and interengaging flanges may be provided on the longitudinal edges of the parts 5a and 5b. A tube 18 may be provided leading from the inside of the exhaust duct 2 for the observation of the frame.</p> |
