A metered dose inhaler containing a medicinal formulation of medicament, HFA 134a and/or HFA227, and being substantially free of ethanol and surfactant, with a metering valve comprising a helical spring, a seal, a seal support and a sliding valve stem, wherein the valve is configured and arranged such that a region of compressive contact is defined where a surface applying force to the seal is substantially flat and extends in an arc through an angle in the range from about 180 to about 360 degrees.
