The connector has a pipe-like connecting piece (V1) for inserting pipes (R1, R2) to be connected. A fastening device is provided at an end (E1) of the connecting piece. An annular seal (6) e.g. O-ring, is supported against a circulating shoulder (7) at a connecting piece-inner wall. An intermediate ring (5) is laid between a wall section (2) and the seal such that axial pressure is exerted on the seal by rotating a clamping ring by the wall section and the intermediate ring. The seal is enlarged in a radial direction for sealing the pipes inserted into the annular seal.
