Disclosed is a multi-color light emitting organic EL display device which can display an image having excellent color purity and excellent contrast and has a constitution suitable for the reduction in production cost. Specifically disclosed is an organic EL display device (1) in which multiple organic EL light emitting units comprising a red light emitting layer (111), a green light emitting layer (112) and a blue light emitting layer (113) are arranged on a main substrate (101). The organic EL display device (1) also comprises a magenta color filter (123) which serves as a first light-control layer having a predetermined level of permeability to a blue light and a red light and a second color-control layer (106) having a predetermined level of absorbability to a light having a wavelength intermediate between that of a red light and that of a green light, wherein the magenta color filter (123) is so arranged as to be superposed over the blue light emitting layer (113), the red light emitting layer (111) and a bank (104) that is a non-light-emitting unit, and the second light-control layer (106) is so arranged as to be superposed over the blue light emitting layer (113), the green light emitting layer (112), the red light emitting layer (111) and the bank (104) that is a non-light-emitting unit.
