摘要 <p>A liquid crystal device (100) is provided with an active matrix substrate (1) which comprises a pixel electrode (12) provided in each of a plurality of pixels, a counter substrate (2) which comprises a counter electrode (22) facing the pixel electrode (12), a vertically aligned liquid crystal layer (3) which is provided between the active matrix substrate (1) and the counter substrate (2), and a pair of polarizing plates (40a, 40b) which face each other with the liquid crystal layer (3) interposed therebetween and are disposed in a cross-Nichol configuration. The pixel electrode (12) comprises a cross-shaped trunk part (12a) disposed so as to overlap the polarizing axes (P1, P2) of the pair of polarizing plates (40a, 40b), a plurality of branch parts (12b) extending in the direction of approximately 45° from the trunk part (12a), and a plurality of slits (12c) formed between the plurality of branch parts (12b). The active matrix substrate (1) further comprises a subsidiary electrode (13) facing the pixel electrode (12) with an insulating layer interposed therebetween and configuring, together with the pixel electrode (12), a subsidiary capacitance (Cs). The subsidiary electrode (13) has a shape which does not substantially overlap the plurality of slits (12c) of the pixel electrode (12) when viewed in the direction of the normal to the display surface. Consequently, it becomes possible to improve the transmittance when a pixel electrode having a comb-shaped fine electrode structure is used in a multi-domain liquid crystal display device provided with a vertically aligned liquid crystal layer.</p>
