Extraction and purification of a stilbenoid, pterostilbene to 50% to 99% purity from a botanical source by pulverising and extracting with an aqueous alcohol, filtering, chromatographing, eluting with aqueous alcohol, concentrating to a paste, redissolving the paste in aromatic solvent, column adsorption to obtain a semi-solid mass and drying. The pterostilbene is used to inhibit Histone Deacetylases and administering, optionally complexed with cyclodextrin to improve water solubility and bioavailability, to manage poly glutamine repeat disorder such as Huntington's disease, spinocerebellar ataxias, spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy and dentatorubropallidoluysian atrophy. |
