<p>An anti-barricade thumb-turn lock that enables operation of the door lock device it is fitted to, even if force is applied to the thumb-turn. The lock comprises a circular spring component 5, circular thumb-turn drive plate 6 and circular spindle-drive plate 8 inserted into the circular inner bore 2 of the thumb-turn and secured in position by means of a retaining ring 10. In operation, when a room occupant uses the thumb-turn, the spring component 5 provides sufficient pressure to engage the drive plates, enabling operation of the lock. However, in a barricade situation, if an occupant applies force to the thumbturn, the drive plates will slip against each other allowing a person outside the room to operate the lock. The lock is intended for use in hospitals and especially mental health facilities.</p> |
