Polyesters containing microfibers, and methods for making and using same

A polyester composition comprising a thermoplastic polyester and from 0.1 to 2.5 weight percent of one or more inorganic microfibers, with the exception of glass fibers, based on the total weight of the polyester composition, wherein said microfibers have a volume average length of from 0.1 to less than 100 µm and a diameter of 8 to 12 µm. A process for making the polyester composition, said process comprising the step of agitating a starting material in a liquid medium to reduce the size of the starting material and to form a slurry; and wherein said liquid medium comprises one or more non-aqueous solvents, monomers or polymer precursors.
