Provided are compounds effective in the prevention or treatment of arteriosclerosis, which have a mechanism of action different from that of statin drugs. Pyripyropene derivatives represented by general formula (I) or (II) [wherein R1 and R2 are each a group selected from among hydroxyl, lower acyloxy, arylcarbonyloxy, and heteroaryl- carbonyloxy; or -R2 may be (=O)R3 wherein R3 is hydroxyl, lower alkoxy, arylalkoxy, heteroarylalkoxy, lower alkylamino, arylamino, or heteroarylamino]; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, solvates and hydrates thereof.
