A seat (2) for absorbing a force, which seat (2) comprises a seat portion (4), a backrest portion (6), and a hinge arrangement (8) which connects the backrest portion (6) to the seat portion (4), and the hinge arrangement (8) being a sacrificial hinge arrangement (8) which is configured to collapse consequent upon the seat (2) receiving the force and thereby to absorb at least a part of the force. The force may be a blast from a mine, or the force of an aeroplane or helicopter crashing to the ground. |
