FUEL CELL SYSTEM AND START TIMING CONTROL METHOD FOR THE FUEL CELL SYSTEM

Provided are a fuel cell system and a start timing control method for the fuel cell system which can simultaneously prevent lowering of durability and lowering of starting efficiency. The fuel cell system (1) includes a fuel cell stack (2) and a fuel gas piping system (4) for supplying the fuel gas to the fuel cell stack (2). When started at a temperature below zero, the fuel cell system (1) can selectively perform a rapid warm-up operation wherein a circulation pump (24) is rotated and electricity is generated with a lower air stoich ratio than the one used upon start at a normal temperature. The fuel cell system (1) further includes: a judgment unit (7) which judges whether a fuel gas channel in the fuel cell stack (2) or the fuel gas piping system (4) is clogged by freezing; and a rapid warm-up operation control unit which stops the circulation pump (24) if clogging is detected and modifies the end condition of the rapid warm-up operation in accordance with the degree of clogging.
