Disclosed is a medical imaging apparatus capable of setting a given plane in a three-dimensional space as an imaging cross section and capable of automatically calculating the imaging cross section without prolonging the examination time and automatically calculating the segment cross section for MPR. Two-dimensional scout imaging similar to cases where the imaging cross section is manually set is performed, the created scout image is processed, and a recommended imaging cross section is calculated. The algorithm for the processing and image processing techniques used for the processing are held in advance for each region to be imaged and for each type of examination.
