The present invention relates to a system and method for customizing a hearing aid device to a user. The proposed system (10) comprises means (16) for computing a three-dimensional geometric model of an external auditory canal of a user's ear based upon scan data corresponding to at least a portion of said external auditory canal. The proposed system (10) also includes means (16) for computing a three-dimensional geometric model of a hearing aid shell in-situ said computed three-dimensional geometric model of said external auditory canal and for designating a position within said three-dimensional model of said hearing aid shell. The proposed system (10) further comprises means (17) for computing an acoustic frequency response of a simulated acoustic signal incident on said designated position, said acoustic frequency response being computed taking into account said geometric model of said external auditory canal.
