A height adjustable chair suitable. for use by the disabled, frail or elderly comprises: a wheeled chassis 2; a two-part seat having a rear seat section 50 and a height adjustable seat cradle 51; and a back support frame having a height adjustable mast 6a, and a cross member 6b which is connected to and extends from the mast 6b across the width of the chair. The mast 6a and cross member 6b are arranged so that upon extension of the telescopic mast the seat cradle 51 is raised relative the chassis and can be moved laterally relative the mast so that a person seated on the chair can be raised and lowered in order to facilitate toileting or delivery onto a bed. Preferably, the seat cradle 51 is coupled to the cross member by arm rests 4. If desired, the non-height adjustable rear seat section 50 may be rotated out of the way to allow the chair to be positioned over a toilet. |
