PURPOSE: A shadow relief map producing method and an apparatus thereof for having the sense of reality are provided to express the shadow relief map with the feeling of movement and the sense of reality. CONSTITUTION: A basic shadow source generating unit(22) originally receives a map from geographical information database. The basis shadow source generating unit generates the basic shadow source. A three-dimensional topography generating unit(23) generates three-dimensional topography. A screen shadow source generating unit(24) generates the screen shadow source by the basic shadow source. A shadow synthesis unit(25) synthesizes the screen shadow source in the three-dimensional topography.
